Youth and Suicide

From what I understand, our suicide rate is on the rise. Surely, there can be a number of reasons for this increase but when a 5th grade student takes their life, it really makes me scratch my head.
An article posted on the Chicago Tribune website yesterday spoke about a 10-year-old who supposedly hanged himself in an Evanston middle school bathroom. Teachers found him hanging from his shirt collar on a hook early Wednesday morning.
I can’t help but ponder what that 10-year-old was thinking prior to his suicide. Common tragedy stories deal with teens and the middle aged - not the adolescent. Something just doesn’t add up here.
Apparently he did make threats to kill himself the day before and was scolded for it but I do believe there was some type of foul play involved.
Fifth graders don’t off themselves because they failed a spelling test. If not foul play, then perhaps something psychological. I’m curious to see what will transpire.
